All
children that are seen as healthy by their parents can take
part in baby swim. Also for children with disabilities baby
swimming can be extremely good. In these cases a doctor must
be consulted before starting swimming.
The lower limit medically for starting baby swim is when the
child reaches a weight of 4 kg and is more than 3 month of
age. It must have no open wounds.
It is easier to start swimming early because the child hasn’t
then any fear of the water. But the most important thing is
that the parents feel ready. It is important that you as a
parent do not feel that swim lessons are a stress factor and
that you come in time to the swim lesson and that the child
is rested and not hungry. If you feel stressed your child
will notice your feelings and also feel stressed.
Therefore it is better to wait than to start too early. Most
families that start swimming at the age of 5 - 7 months feel
that is a good time to start.
It’s never too late to start swimming!
